Keisha visit-Day 2

Since Glenn is the breakfast master, he insisted that we start our day with heart-stopping breakfasts during the Thanksgiving break, it is a break after all! I believe this particular morning he made Ebilskevers, biscuits and gravy and hash browns, gotta love the carbs! (Notice Jayda's dress. The very first thing she does when she wakes up now is puts on the first dress she can find!)

Afterwards we got ready and took off to Intercourse, what a name! Intercourse is one of the town close to Lancaster, highly populated by the Amish community. There we found Kettle Kitchen Village, which was an adorable display of shops selling goods, some made by the Amish.

Glenn and Keisha...being Glenn and Keisha.

I'm not sure our family is quite ready for this kind of picture!

One of the shops at Kettle Kitchen

I loved the brick pathway they had going between shops.

Oh, this was my FAVORITE shop, we spent most of our time around this little set up! I'm pretty sure I tasted every single thing they had here, including some interesting jellies, like tomato basil, not too bad.

There was also a station where you could decorate a gingerbread man. Jayda loved it, and Glenn was so cute helping her.

Keisha, Jayda and I at the jam and jellies shop.

There was also a great playground in the village where we let the kids get out their wiggles.

My poor photography skills don't do this justice, but the view from the playground was just heavenly.

There was also a small petting zoo right there at the playground. The kids loved the animals, although Glenn and Keisha may have loved them more!!

I think he likes me ~blush~

Yeah, these pictures are completely out of order, but this was on our way to the playground...I think.

Keisha, Skyler and the chickens.

That derned mini horse bit Skyler on the finger tip! I guess that's what Skyler gets for sticking the tip of his finger in the horse's mouth. He cried for about a minute, and then poked his little finger right back to the horse's mouth. That's when we had an intervention.

To the left of Glenn was a smoke shop where we spent about a half hour sampling all different kinds of meats and cheeses that were SO good. I could have easily left with a wheelbarrow full of their different cheeses. However, I've been advised from my doctor to stop doing that.

The last thing we did in Intercourse was stop at this tiny pretzel shop called Immergut, which I believe means "good life" in Amish speak, I could be wrong though. Anyway, they're famous for their butter soaked pretzels, which really are as good as everyone says. They definitely helped to make our life good...er!

After our pretzel snack, we drove another hour into Hershey to check out the chocolate factory. Hershey was such a cute little town with Hershey kisses for their street lamps, don't you love it!

To get to the tour, you had to walk through a path with several signs and videos that gave a brief history of how everything got started. But the fun part was that afterwards you got to climb in a huge moving Hershey kiss that took you on an adorable tour of the chocolate making process. I've never seen my kids so engrossed in anything before. Even Skyler was completely entranced by the music and moving of the tour, watching them was probably the best part, although the tour was really cool, and interesting too.

I took tons of pictures on the tour, but I had to post this one because I'm in love with Kit Kats!

The tree at the Hershey factory.

The scene from the way out, see you later Hershey!

Since we had a two hour drive ahead of us, we decided to stop for dinner somewhere in Lancaster. We found a nice empty Chinese buffet which was really good. Before we got there, Jayda laid her head down on Keisha's arm and informed her not to wake her, and that she was a big girl and could wake herself up. She wasn't kidding. She stayed asleep on the walk into the restaurant, and on dad's shoulder for quite a while until the noise and our prodding finally woke her. We weren't as lucky with Skyler, who was just not having any of it anymore! It did make me realize how slow our days usually are and how much we packed into one day, he was tired! But, besides that the kids were great and we had so much fun! I can already see Lancaster and Hershey being regular attractions on our time off!

Jayda finally coming to!

Yea!! You've discovered some of my most favorite places in PA. I LOVE Kitchen Kettle Village-- particularly all the free samples.:) We go there for "lunch"-- and of course get the Immergut pretzels just for good measure. So good!! What a fun post!! We need to plan a girl's day there soon, and hit some of those Lancaster outlet malls afterwards.
