Turning it OFF!

Wow, what a morning we just had, and it's not even over yet!

This morning we were awoken around 7:00 to our daughter screaming demands to watch Dora IMMEDIATELY! To get a little extra sleep Glenn apeased her by taking her downstairs and putting an episode on. Twenty minutes later, she was screaming for MORE DORA!! MORE DORA!!

As I laid there, exhausted and slightly suicidal (or homicidal, who knows), it hit me, we've created this! It's really our fault that she's turned into such a couch potato. Cartoons have become a wonderful pacifier and now it's all she wants to do. And not only that, but her parents don't set the best example either. We have a pretty strong tendency to spend the better part of our day in front of the tube when our imaginations have gone dead.

I'm done with it! I raised my momma voice and announced to the family that unless we are on the treadmill, or completing a mundane chore, such as the laundry, there will be no TV this week, NONE. We will go outside, go to the gym, clean, read, play, scrapbook, anything but sit in front of the TV.

Jayda is currently going through detox. After the screaming, crying and messing her pants (you think I'm kidding, but I'm not), she finally came to the realization that we were serious. She is now sleeping due to the exhaustion of the withdrawals. Poor thing. She'll pull through it, we all will, and hopefully by the end of the week, we'll realize just how much time we wasted in front of the TV, which, nine times out of ten, was never that good to begin with!

BEAUTIFUL!!! KUDOS!!! Can you believe I'm going through the EXACT same thing at my house? We've limited ours to one small period after Clinton gets out of school (to give him some 'chill' time) and then it's outside, read a book, color, play with toys- something imaginative. It's hard to adjust after our winter dormancy- but I know we can all do it- good for you! Take the reigns and HOLD ON!!
